Arapahoe Basin, Colorado - Ski Area

Arapahoe Basin pioneered the early days of Colorado Skiing with the first ski lifts opening in 1946. Since then the lifts have been modernized but one thing still remains the same. That is the outstanding skiing with an average of over 30 feet (9.1 m) of snowfall each year. With so much snow, and Arapahoe Basin's high elevation, skiing at the 'Basin' normally lasts until mid June! Arapahoe Basin is about to make history with the largest terrain expansion - Montezuma Bowl opening for the 2007/2008 season. The Montezuma Bowl expansion we increase terrain by 80% and add 34 intermediate and advanced runs.

"Ski the Legend"
The skiing at Arapahoe Basin is truly legendary. A traverse along the East Wall will nearly always result in finding new powder to ski. The famous West Wall with it's cornice provides a spectacular vista while it challenges you to leap off its edge. But perhaps the most famous run in Colorado is Palavicinni. This run ranks as one of the steepest, longest, and most challenging in North America. It is in fact, not really a run, but a natural avalanche path that has formed over the years by the forces of nature. Today the Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol controls the snow to render Palavicinnii safe for skiing.

Snowboarding at the 'Basin'
Snowboarding is very popular at Arapahoe Basin. The same terrain that challenges skiers is guaranteed to be a great 'ride'.
